چکیده

We report preliminary results based on new near-infrared observations of the central stellar cluster of our Galaxy conducted with the infrared spectrometer ISAAC at the ESO VLT UT1 and the MPE speckle camera SHARP at the ESO NTT. We obtained λ/∆λ≥ 3000 K-band spectroscopy of the 2.058 μm He I, 2.165μm Brγ emission lines, and 2.29 μm CO bandhead absorption line. These data demonstrate clearly that there is no strong CO bandhead absorption originating in the northern part (S1/S2 area) of the central stellar cluster at the position of Sgr A. This makes it likely that these K∼14.5 stars are O9 B0.5 stars with masses of 15 to 20 M⊙. Weaker CO bandhead absorption in the southern part of the cluster (S10/S11 area) could be due to contributions from neighbouring stars. We also report the detection of Brγ line emission at the position of the central stellar cluster which could be associated with the ’mini-spiral’ rather than with the Sgr A cluster itself. At the NTT we obtained another epoch epoch of proper motion measurments. The changes of source positions are consistent with the proper motion velocities derived from earlier epochs.

The Nuclear Stellar Cluster in the Seyfert 1 Galaxy NGC 3227 : High Angular Resolution NIR Imaging and Spectroscopy

Near-Infrared high angular resolution speckle imaging and imaging spectroscopy of the nuclear region (∼ 10 " ≈ 840 pc) of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3227 are presented. The images reveal an unresolved nuclear source in the K band in addition to a nuclear stellar cluster which is slightly resolved in the J and H band. The contribution of this stellar cluster to the NIR continuum is increasing from...

Your thesaurus codes are: missing; you have not inserted them ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS The first ISO ERO: a dusty quasar at z = 1.5 Abstract. We report the discovery of an extremely red object (ERO) in a medium-deep ISOCAM extragalactic survey. The object is also a radio source. Subsequent VLT NIR spectroscopy revealed a prominent Hα line giving a redshift of 1.5. We present the spectrum and ...

A Chandra Study of the Rosette Star-Forming Complex. II. Clusters in the Rosette Molecular Cloud

We explore here the young stellar populations in the Rosette Molecular Cloud (RMC) region with high spatial resolution X-ray images from the Chandra X-ray Observatory, which are effective in locating weak-lined T Tauri stars as well as disk-bearing young stars. A total of 395 X-ray point sources are detected, 299 of which (76%) have an optical or near-infrared (NIR) counterpart identified from ...

Study of Solar Magnetic and Gravitational Energies Through the Virial Theorem

Virial theorem is important for understanding stellar structures. It produces an interesting connection between magnetic and gravitational energies. Using the general form of the virial theorem including the magnetic field (toroidal magnetic field), we may explain the solar dynamo model in relation to variations of the magnetic and gravitational energies. We emphasize the role of the gravitatio...
